The axes in this section are all designed for accurate and controlled wood removal whether it be spoons, bowls or any other green wood carving project. Ergonomic handles ensure good grip and control and different sharpening ensure different jobs and right and left handed users are all catered for.

 
Large Carving Axe Ref:475. 475V, 475H

The 475 Large Carving Axe is used for woodworking and shaping wood. The axe has been developed in collaboration with master craftsmen Wille Sundqvist and Onni Linnanheimo, with inspiration from old designs. The Large Carving Axe has a relatively long, curved cutting edge which is double-sided as standard.

It is also available with an asymmetric grind, with a single right or left bevel (grind) These are remarkable axes for convex and straight wood faces such as the outside of bowls, billet preparation and planing flat surfaces.

The 475V Large Carving Axe, ground left side (normally for a right handed person) has a short bevel face on the right side of the edge, if the axe is held in the right hand with the handle down and head up. The left side of the edge has a longer, slightly concave bevel face.

The 475H Large Carving Axe, ground right side (normally for a left handed person) has a short bevel face on the left side of the edge, if the axe is held in the left hand with the handle down and head up. The right side of the edge has a longer, slightly concave bevel face.

Special Carving Axes

A range arrange of axes with specially hand carved red beech handles, designed in consultation with woodworkers with an uneven surface, giving good friction for a firm grip better grip and control. You can also reshape the handle to suit your own grip and a variety of sharpening to suit all needs.

Belt Carver Ref:473-R. 473-RH, 473-RV

The Belt Carver has the same head as the Gränsfors Small Hatchet but with a hand carved red beech handle. Thanks to its light weight and coming in 3 different bevel options it is excellent for carving small details . 473-R double-sided ground edge, 473-RH right bevel & 473-RV left bevel.

Using the head of the 415 Wildlife Hatchet, with a much shorter handle, those clever smiths at Gränsfors have created an excellent working axe. Also known as the ‘Kubben’, which translates as ‘bowler’, referring to its historic use carving bowls.
