The design of these Broad Axes is based on Swedish
logging techniques for squaring logs.
In log building, two types of Broad Axes are used;
Chopping Broad Axes with the edge sharpened on both
sides and relatively straight handles, and Carving
Broad Axes, with the handle angled in relation to the
edge and often with the edge sharpened on one side
only (commonly known in the UK as a Side Axe).

Each axe can be supplied with a range of handle types
and sharpening options. The 1900 Broad Axe Series
comprises nine (!) different axe options relating to
handle and sharpening type; the handle can be
straight, angled to the right (right angled), or
angled to the left (left angled). Angled handles keep
your hands at a distance from the timber, minimising
the risk of injury, and are usually used as carving
axes. Straight handles are usually used for chopping
axes. Sharpenings can be either double-sided, with a
bevel on the same side of the offset handle (standard
scissors sharpening) or with a bevel on the opposite
side of the offset handle (reversed scissors
sharpening).
